Keeper for the day experience

点评：My 10 year old daughter had the most amazing time on the keeper for the day experience. She met with 3 very helpful, friendly and informative keepers, Callum (primates), Ella (mammals), and Abi (birds).
She got hands on experience feeding several of Winghams animals including gibbons, lemurs, storks, pelicans, wallaby's, and Reggie the red deer, she also helped with enrichment activities, including making food parcels out of cardboard tubes, and cleaned out the meerkats.
Each one of the keepers she spent time with put her at ease straight away and were able to answer any questions she had. It's clear how much they all loved the animals and enjoyed sharing their knowledge with a fellow animal lover!
For lunch she had a half hour break in the cafe by the entrance, she picked sausage and chips. Her meal was ready for her as soon as we got there, she even had hot chocolate with whipped cream and marshmallows. Myself and my mum also ate in the cafe we had the sausage and egg roll and a ham salad roll (both made from pizza dough). Both meals were a good size and freshly made. One thing I would say is that because the keeper for the day only gets half hour if you are following the participant around you might want to bring your own lunch as at busy times you will struggle to order and eat in that time. (Their meal is pre-orderd at the beginning of the day).
The experience started at 10 and ended around 2.30 which meant we still had plenty of time to see the other animals at the zoo. As you walk round all areas we saw were kept clean and tidy and all the animals seemed happy and well looked after.
At the end of the day my daughter was presented with a certificate to remember her time being a zoo keeper for the day.
I would definitely recommend this experience for any animal enthusiast especially if like my daughter they want to be a zookeeper themselves when they grow up!
