点评:Don’t miss the ancient Stadium of Delphi which is located in the forest high on the slope of Mount Parnassus. It is situated north-west of the theater, above the sanctuary of Apollo and is the highest point of the ancient ruins. The Stadium is the best preserved ruin of the entire Delphi site and is reportedly one of the best-preserved stadiums of this kind anywhere. It has survived through the years in remarkably good condition. It was originally built in the 5th century BC but was altered in later centuries. Its stone seats could sit around 6500 spectators, and it was used extensively during the Pythian and Panhellenic games for athletic events in which people of any Greek city could take part. Its straight track is 177.55 m long and 25.50 m wide. Both the stone starting-line and finishing line are still visible. Four pillars remain of the Triumphal Arch which is a unique feature in ancient Greek stadiums. This is where the judges and athletes of the games would enter the stadium to the applause and cheering of the audience. Although quite a distance uphill from the theater, the walk is certainly worth the effort.
