点评:This museum is small but very well done, and I learned so much about the Basque region from prehistoric times through the Roman era. The displays are a mix of objects, dioramas and artworks, and the combination is very effective. The museum is modern on the inside and designed for accessibility. We don’t have mobility issues, but people who do can use an elevator around the corner from the main entrance (which is at the top of a flight of stairs).
Note that exhibit descriptions are only in Euskera (Basque) and Spanish, however audio guides are also available in English and French. These audio guides are well done and are a *must* if you don’t speak one of the local languages. You access them using a QR code with your own smartphone. I’d recommend bringing a pair of earbuds so you don’t need to hold your phone to your ear the whole time.
At the end is an exhibit covering recent discoveries of 14,000 year old cave drawings in a nearby cave, which includes a VERY well done VR experience. The VR headsets aren’t sanitized between uses, so consider bringing face wipes to wipe your face afterwards.
There was a temporary exhibit on the ground floor but no audio guide was available for that. The woman at the ticket desk was very friendly and helpful, and was happy to talk with us about it.
