Bay Island Driftwood Museum的点评
点评：As the name of the place suggests, it contains a unique exhibition of fossilised driftwood from the Andaman Sea. The collection has been put together by the Museum Curator, a lady who had lived in Port Blair in the Andaman Islands. She explained that all the driftwood was Rosewood which grew in mangrove swamps where the trees became undermined by water and collapsed into the swamp. They remained there for centuries until periodically were uncovered by storms or wave action. The pieces of driftwood were the result and had been hardened by age so resembled and felt like iron.
Apart from the labelling of each exhibit It was obvious what some of them were, others less so and required imagination. Fascinating.
There is a strong possibility that the Museum may be granted UNESCO heritage status as there is nothing like it anywhere in Kerala and indeed the world.
