Canyon Moustique的点评
点评：Canyon Moustique is an incredibly beautiful place and unique in my experience - a canyon on the jungle with walls and water illuminated by light that you can safely wade and swim through. It’s therefore surprising that Guadeloupe almost seems to want it to be a secret.
While the Canyon is listed on the Guadeloupe tourism website, I saw no postcards with the Canyon on it and there is no signage leading to the trailhead (Boucle des Desbordes) and no signs anywhere on the trail that mention the Canyon. The official trail makes a loop that doesn’t go close to the Canyon. You have to research where it is and be very careful not to take the wrong path, as I did, and walk miles off course. While there are blazes on some trees marking the path, I saw almost none of them. I have never seen a map with a path to the canyon, but it involves taking a trail past two houses and into the jungle, crossing some streams and reaching a plateau with a banana warehouse, continuing down a dirt path (NOT going back into the forest) until you reach an opening into the woods with a red blaze on the tree. You then descend down a very steep hill to the river and turn right and the Canyon is not far from there.
This is a challenging hike involving difficult, muddy, and hilly terrain, plus wading and swimming through the Canyon. Bring all the appropriate footwear and swimwear and a dry bag and plan for several hours.
