点评:We visited, mostly for the British Wildlife Photographer of the Year exhibition of the photos.
My Dad now uses a mobility scooter and stairs can be a challenge for him now. The exhibition is on the top floor! With it being an old and beautiful building (I'm assuming it's "listed") there wasn't an accessible lift.
The staff, all of them who we encountered, went out of their way to provide as much help and support to make our visit as comfortable as possible.
We used the accessible entrance and Dad was able to take his mobility scooter (It's a portable one) into the café.
We used the stairs, nearest the accessible entrance, as they were wide (I could stand/help next to him), they weren't too deep, they were carpeted (better for gripping feet!) And had a sturdy banister.
The kind staff popped a chair on each half landing so Dad could have a rest, ready for the next chunk of the challenge! We had a wheelchair waiting for us at the top and they offered him a glass of water too (personally, I think he deserved a beer after that!)
The exhibition was superb AND we managed to get safely back down again!
We spent the afternoon exploring outside. There are numerous places to stop and tske a seat and beautiful flowers and plants to enjoy.
I particularly loved the areas which have been allowed to grow a bit wild. They were full of insects, bees, butterflies, etc. They have tame peacocks in the grounds. Plenty of places to have a picnic. An indoor café and outdoor tea garden.
