What a wonderful experience I had at St Nicholas Church in Carrickfergus. My friend and I just turned up at 2pm on a Tuesday and were given a tour of the church by the Minister. The amazing history of the church covering around 800 years was relayed to us with an unexpected humour that greatly enhanced the tour.
The beautiful stained glass windows, the crooked aisle, the lepers’s window and the monument for Arthur Chichester and his family who are buried there, to mention a few, all have their own fascinating stories which were told with a passionate knowledge and humour that engaged me for the duration of the tour. I would highly recommend this fascinating tour to visitors but also to locals as it holds so much of the history of Carrickfergus within its walls.
