Paying for parking is a nightmare

点评：We are actually local (ish) to this lake but haven't visited for many years. When we arrived at the car park, we found that all parking fees had to be paid via RingGo, i.e on a smartphone. None of us own smartphones therefore couldn't use any sort of "app" to pay the fee. We all struggled on a pay-as-you-go phone to call the number, answer the questions and enter the car registration number. In the end, the call cost us over £5 due to the difficulties...and that was on top of the actual parking fee of £5.
Even a debit-card facility would have been easier to use.
It is heartbreaking that we are almost excluded from our own local nature reserves because we don't have the latest electronic toys to make paying a parking fee easier. I doubt very much if we will ever come again, if it is this difficult to pay a parking fee. I don't know how RingGo ended up controlling the parking at this lake but someone somewhere needs to do some serious, serious re-thinking, because the aggro will drive many people away.
And it's not just this lake, but many places in Bath and North-east Somerset that are removing not just coin-facilities but also card-paying methods as well, in favour of "apps", on the assumption that every man and his dog has a phone.
So...memorable? yes, but for the wrong reasons.
And while I'm at it, RingGo has terrible reviews over at TrustPilot; failed phone connections, text messages not arriving, and all the rest of the electronic faff that is involved with paying-by-phone.
Give yourself less of a headache and consider going somewhere else.
