点评:Went on a coach trip from our homes in South Gloucestershire....took ages to get there as driver went the pretty way, which was absolutely gorgeous on a perfect English summer day.
On arrival there were quite a few cars, but no other coaches in the carpark. We then walked the short distance to reception, where we were given a mobile phone type device and instructed how to use it to give an informative tour...this was pretty simple and worked well. No one asked us for tickets so I presume anyone could have walked in, without paying.....but not my problem.
The house/castle was brilliant, mainly as there had been no attempt to refurbish it, it was exactly as it had always been, uneven floors, dangerous staircases, dark niches etc.....life certainly wasn't easy then. Certainly no 'health and safety' concerns, then or now,and all the better for it!!!
Only a single tiny moan, the tea rooms (there is only one) found it difficult to deal with the number of people that came in from the coach....there were only about ten of us at any one time......and a lady was quite aggressive in her attitude, telling us we should have booked..we didn't know that..surely a job for the coach firm so no reason to have a go at us. When meal came, reasonably quickly actually, the food was fine.
All in all, a hidden and little known English gem!
