Grassholme Observatory的点评
点评：Not for the arrogant or the power-mad, this “dark skies” experience really does put the insignificance of the human condition - and the amazing gift of the human imagination into perspective.
We, a couple of ladies who saw the beginnings of space travel in the 1950s and 1960s, booked for a Sunday evening event at Grassholme and were surprised, fascinated and mind blown by what we learned.
Volunteer Alec was on hand to meet us just before 8pm on a damp and windy night, directed us to the car park and then inside a small, cosy building for tea, coffee or cold drinks.
There were only the two of us as it happened, but it clearly made no difference. Alec would have addressed a meeting in the Royal Albert Hall with the same enthusiasm for his subject - our universe!
Slides, videos, chat, questions and answers, then a look outside at the reflecting telescope used at Grassholme - its structure, how it works and some of the images produced - some enhanced by the amazing software in the powerful computer attached.
Unfortunately it’s still not possible to control the weather and cloudy skies meant that actual real life observation couldn’t be done.
It didn’t matter. We learned such a lot from Alec and we now have a ticket to join another visit when skies are clear and hopefully do a bit of star gazing and space exploration of our own.
Excellent venue! Can’t wait to go back!
