Grassholme Observatory的点评
点评：Booked for four people and were there by ourselves so it was like having a private tour! They did say that as max they can have up to 24 people, but usually 12 or so turn up each evening. Phil and Harry were very knowledgeable and answered all our questions and beyond and gave lots of info on how we could carry on with astronomy as a hobby.
At first we were worried, because of the weather, but the communication was great and we're so glad we went anyway as the sky did clear up. Just be mindful of the roads, as it can get icy and the sign for the observatory is quite small and can easily be missed.
Had our own telescopes each which we could see the craters on the moon with, and Phil and Harry were very helpful at adjusting it if need be. We then got to see the larger telescope, and got to see Uranus, Jupiter, and the Pleiades, as well as many others for which there was plenty of time to see, with no rush.
Hot drinks are offered halfway through for £1.50 each, with the option to buy a Grassholme mug for £5 (drink comes free). They take cash and card.
Would say though to make sure you wrap up warm with hand and feet warmers, thermals, hat etc as majority of the time is outside and it can get freezing cold. They do offer blankets as well if you need. Toilets are also available to use, and the inside room has a heater.
Finished the night at 11pm, thinking the time had flown by, but we stood outside a bit longer, while they were putting the telescopes away. Phil very kindly got his tripod out which we used to take great pictures of the Orion constellation.
Overall, an amazing evening and would definitely be back again :) Thank you very much Phil and Harry
