Nice spa but weak massage

点评：Emailed to enquire and although did receive a reply, I wish to check some details and asked twice but they never gave a reply to my questions which was frustrating and I certainly expect a spa of this calibre to be more professional and able to handle queries.
Did the “Evenings at Athenaeum”. Upon arrival, I asked whether I can swim first then do the massage (which was the question I tried to check over email but didn’t get a reply), it couldn’t be arranged and it was simply odd getting the massage first then swim. The pool can also do with a bit more cleaning and attention. The spa itself - changing and treatment rooms are nice. Also lovely to relax afterwards with the canapes and champagne.
The masseuse was friendly, but when I requested stronger pressure, she informed me that I will have to choose another massage and there will be a surcharge, which is a little shocking, I had been to many spa and this is the first time I heard about a surcharge for stronger pressure. I did agree to the surcharge as there’s no point in getting a weak massage for me, but it was still quite weak so led me to suspect maybe the staff was hoping that I will refuse to pay for the surcharge as she is unable to do a proper strong massage. Unfortunately cannot say I had a good massage and didn't feel quite relaxed afterwards.
