点评:I wanted to visit Portland Bill because I wanted to see the famous Lighthouse of the same name.
Portland Bill itself is a really pleasant rocky promontory (or 'Bill', hence its name) on Dorset's beautiful Isle of Portland.
There is the aforementioned Lighthouse (which was closed when we were there - which wasn't a disappointment, as I could hardly take a toddler up there), a small shop and restaurant, and a pub that is currently closed and up for lease.
There is also a Ministry of Defence Magnetic Range which (MOD Portland Bill) which is used for Magnetic Measurements due to its location far away from any electric interference and magnetic fields. This building is by far and away the least attractive feature of Portland Bill - but then I don't suppose it was ever meant to be a tourist attraction.
There are other features on Portland Bill too, such as the Trinity House Obelisk and Pulpit Rock.
The views out to sea were lovely, the little shop was very nice and standing in the shadow of the mighty Portland Bill Lighthouse was great. I am very glad I visited, and I definitely hope to return one day.
