Portland Bill的点评
点评：We had a fantastic day at Portland Bill. It is a great place to watch waves, sea birds, boats and anything else that passes by in the sea. It is a very peaceful area, even though it was quite busy when we went, the area is quite large so it didn't feel crowded.
There is a restaurant, which you can reserve tables for (recommended as it was fully booked when we went), there is also an outdoor café which serves some hot food, hot and cold drinks, and ice creams. You can also get scones with jam and cream to takeaway from here. They offered oat milk to have with coffee if you want a dairy free alternative. You can also get dog ice cream.
The surrounding area is beautiful, there are a lot of huge rocks for kids to scramble up, which they loved doing. The view is spectacular in all directions.
You can access the lighthouse gift shop for free but a tour of the lighthouse is for a small fee. There is a bus which stops in the car park, and parking charges apply if you drive here yourself. The drive up to the Portland Bill is very steep, in case you were considering cycling or walking up.
There are toilets near the lighthouse for visitors to use.
Things to note:
1. Take coats in case of windy weather, as the whole area is very exposed and I imagine the weather can change quite quickly. We went on a very hot day, but even we felt the chill from the wind and sea breeze.
2. The ground is very uneven in places, so take if you are unsteady on your feet, or keep an eye on very young children. There are large gaps between some of the rocks if you want to get nearer to the sea. But the path itself is flatter to walk on.
3. There is nothing to stop you between land and sea, something to keep in mind if you have young children who might run off. The rocks look fun to climb on, but some of them are very close to the edge.
4. The area is dog friendly, except for the lighthouse.
