点评:Amboise is a charming, historic town on the Loire River - we easily spent a couple of hours here.
If you are exploring, Place Michel Debre is a good starting point. This is the main square in the historic centre and lies at the foot of the Royal Castle.
Here, you will find the ramp-like entrance to the castle. It’s obviously the main drawcard for most tourists but there are a number of other things to do here as well.
Take your pick from the restaurants and cafes and sit in the sun and enjoy the atmosphere. We stopped for crepes and coffee at Anne de Bretagne, which faces onto the square.
Afterwards, we went across to Bigot’s, a traditional chocolatier and patisserie.
We also did a wine tasting at Caveau des Vignerons d’Amboise, which is directly underneath the castle. I’d recommend this as the fellow spent a lot of time with us, without any pressure to buy.
Another interesting feature are the medieval half-timbered buildings.
Overall, the square has a lot of charm, and a lively atmosphere.
