点评:I've been meaning to head over to check out the restaurant for a while now. the sun is finally starting to show it's face so decided it was time to get in the car. We booked ahead. I've not been here since 2020 between various lockdowns, back then we sat in a poly tunnel.
This time around everything is finished and the barn is looking great. Fab farm shop downstairs with all the wines you'd expect to see as well as local food and crafts to purchase (we bought some birthday cards before we left).
The restaurant area upstairs was super busy for a Friday lunchtime, the room itself was finished to a high standard, one large room with an open bar and kitchen on one end. Tables that can sit 2 - 10 people. As well as outside seating for when things heat up a bit.
We were greeted by happy and friendly staff who explained that it was the launch of a new food menu and proceed to talk us through the various options available. The general idea is that you should order around 3 plates each depending on appetite and that dishes would arrive as they were ready (think wagamama).
There was also a set menu option that had a more rigid flow to it, one dish arrived to share, then the next when you were ready and so on. We went for this option as we couldn't decide what we would like to try as it all sounded delicious.
We had a glass of sparkling wine from the vineyard that was served in a coupe style glass instead of a flute. I must admit here I own a bar and have contemplated doing this so was intrigued. The waitress excitedly explained that they use them as they have more surface area and therefore more bubbles! Sounds great and looked great to boot. However I have now decided that I'll be sticking to flutes, it seems that more bubbles simply meant the wine went flat faster than I would have liked/expected. But I'm not marking them down for it. It looked cute, but now we know.
First dish to arrive, scallops on chimichurri with samphire and celeriac. Delicious. The scallops were cooked perfectly in my view. The chimichurri did not overpower the dish. It was a great opener.
Second dish. Jersey Royals with Sussex Charmer. Again super tasty, the potatoes were so tender and had a lovely crunchy skin, they were on a chutney of some kind, tomato perhaps. melted gooey cheese on top, not too much to throw off the balance and finished with fresh slices of spring onion and pickled red onion. Fab.
Third dish. Tempura Prawns with chilli and honey. The flavour was really great. the prawns were again cooked perfectly. The batter was a little too thick to call temura but we wolfed it down all the same.
Fourth dish. Sirloin beef cut into strips in a rich gravy and a cous cous salad on the side. The beef was lovely and pink, tender and tasty. The gravy was rich and full of flavour. The cous cous salad was lacking a little something something, a touch of acid perhaps but was still nice. The two elements didn't seem to work as a pair to me but the beef and gravy combo was so tasty we've booked again to go for sunday lunch tomorrow.
Desert followed which was a Rhubarb and Custard take on Eaton Mess. We are going to have a bash at recreating this at home. Great idea!
By the time we settled the bill we'd had 5 glasses of bubbles between us and honestly wanted to ditch the car to have some more.
The bill was reasonable. set menu was £35 per person, plus 5 glasses of bubbles and the expected service charge (which was well deserved), came to £140.
Thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and as I say, see you sunday for the roast :)

第四道菜是切成条状的沙朗牛肉,配上浓郁的肉汁和蒸粗麦粉沙拉。牛肉色泽鲜美,粉嫩可口。肉汁浓郁,味道十足。蒸粗麦粉沙拉缺少了一点什么,可能有点酸,但仍然很好吃。这两种食材对我来说似乎不搭,但牛肉和肉汁的组合非常美味,我们又预订了明天的周日午餐。
接下来是甜点,是 Eaton Mess 的大黄和蛋奶沙司。我们要在家里尝试一下重现这种甜点。好主意!
