Amongst the best Motor Museums in Australia
Gilbert's Motor Museum的点评
点评：We have visited quite a few vehicle museums over the years from quite small through to rather large. Gilberts Motor Museum is at the large end of the scale and like all car museums, those that work/volunteer here have a passion for vehicles, its history and its personalities. Vehicles of all sorts are here – cars, motorbikes, bicycles, wheelchairs, business vehicles. The display is rotated an a regular basis to bring in new items to replace those that have been on display for a while.
I must say we had thought it would take about an hour to see Gilberts. We spent over two hours there and we felt we were rushing. There is so much to see and take in. I really liked the way that the museum had integrated into the vehicles on display, what the garage of the day would have looked like. This pays homage to the original owners of Gilberts Motor Garage from the early 1900’s until the closing of Gilbert Motors in December 2018. The museum is housed in the original buildings.
Probably a main highlight was being to view the Glen Dix OAM Library. Glen is best known for flamboyantly waving the chequered flag at the Australian Formula 1 Grand Prix in Adelaide 1985-1995 and in Melbourne in 1996. Most of his memorabilia has been passed into the custody of the Motor Museum. We spent ages looking through newspaper clippings. Noted there was a very extensive library of vehicle motor manuals.
Costs are reasonable for a couple of hours of visiting a well curated history of vehicles. Well done to the volunteers and all those that have made Gilberts Motor Museum a reality.
Return? That is definitely on and already in the Bucket list.
