点评:Firstly you will need to know where to locate this monument? It is across from Queen's Park in Moonee Ponds- on the median strip. If you are at the Moonee Ponds Bowling Club, then walk across the road and you will see this. What's exciting about this small monument?
THIS is the location of Camp 1 for the fateful journey of Burke and Wills! I read about the camp location in the book years ago... and I recall it was about 12 kilometres into their journey. They were loaded with so many unnecessary items that the travel was slow. Twenty camels and three horses arrived here on the 20th August, 1860. The camels grazed at what is now the nearby St Thomas Church.
Interestingly enough, Burke actually left the site after arriving to ride back to Melbourne for a bootie call... or if you say it nicely, he returned to say goodbye to his love.
After leaving this site they headed towards Lancefield.
