点评:This was a unique experience to explore a house whose structure and history embraces the Norman, Tudor, Georgian and twentieth century. But there was so much more because of its connection to the author and patchwork quilt maker Lucy Boston and the tour conducted by her daughter in law Diana Boston. We were treated to personal anecdotes and insights into Lucy Boston’s tenure of the house and her work landscaping the gardens and restoring rooms in the house. We learned of the house’s role as the imagined setting for the Greene Knowe book series and its use as musical entertainment venue for off duty servicemen in WW2. The highlight however was a collection of museum quality patchwork quilts, the product of Lucy’s great technical and creative skill. It was a privilege to have access to one of the longest inhabited buildings in England filled with beautiful art and ceramics and to learn about an important contributor to literature and crafts.
