点评:My wife and I, both of us senior citizens and both English Heritage members, visited the castle on a gorgeous Sunday in May, and it was a really good way to while the hours away. We didn’t buy a guide book, so the first thing we did was to ask Gemini on our mobiles about the castle. This told us all that we needed to know to enjoy what we were seeing, and especially why the castle is now in ruins. There was also a member of English Heritage wandering around inside the ruins imparting some very useful information, so really no need to go to the expense of the guide book, and I think that we had enough information on our mobiles not to need the audio guides either. There are also plaques around the castle giving information on what you are looking at, so our self-guided tour work out just fine for us. After walking around the ruins, climbing to the highest points of each building to get amazing views of the surrounding countryside and the castle, we went down to the stables for a drink and a bowl of soup each, which was reasonably priced and good fare. Finally, we visited Leicester’s Gatehouse, which if I’m truthful, should have been our first port of call when we arrived, as there’s a lot of information about the castle therein, so a good starting point for when you arrive. Now, as we’re members I don’t know how much the parking or entrance fee is, but for us it was a good day out to use our membership.
