点评:We drove to Bolsover as part of our trip to the East Midlands.
There is carparking but it is limited. The carpark near the main entrance to the castle was full by 10:15 when we arrived at it. We were directed to a second carpark which was bigger, and we easily found a space. However, when it came to leaving we had to negotiate some pretty haphazard parking!
As an English Heritage property it was very well managed. The cafe had a good selection of food and beverages. After going through the entrance we walked around and noticed a distinct lack of information boards. Then a bit later we saw people with audio tours. We were not offered the audio tours when we arrived, but they were provided without any problem when we went back to the entrance and asked for them.
The castle itself is interesting, and the gardens are beautifully laid out. However, it is the art work that absolutely steals the show. Described as a rare survivor from the 17th century it certainly is art designed to impress even nearly 400 years later.
We took advantage of the free tour, our guide was Ian. He was really knowledgeable and made a point of showing us things that we would not know about from the guidebook or audio tour.
