查茨沃斯庄园的点评
点评：Lots of less than great reviews, and I would agree that the overall theme and decorations weren't as lovely, cohesive and well-designed as I had imagined, based on many, many years of day dreaming about visiting Chatsworth House at Christmas time. I traveled over from Wisconsin, USA to see the property during the holidays and to catch the Christmas Market. Probably enough said about the Christmas decorations/theme. Here's what I really enjoyed:
The outdoor Christmas Market is absolutely lovely, with most vendors selling locally made items, at excellent prices. I HIGHLY recommend going to the market during the week - Monday - Thursday. It is still busy, but it's more manageable and easier to shop/move around. Incredible food and drink options available, with picnic table seating throughout, and multiple marshmellow roasting stations, which is fun.
You can wander the estate on many trails through the gardens or hillsides - it's wonderful that they allow visitors to pretty much stroll throughout. I came back a second day just to spend more time in the gardens and walking around by the river. The house is beautiful, and many rooms had gorgeous Christmas decorations, although yes, some seemed light on decorations or oddly themed.
Check out what was the stable area, which has a wonderful courtyard, gift shops and The Cavendish Restaurant. The afternoon tea was absolutely wonderful. I was traveling solo, so to be welcomed warmly by the staff is appreciated - that doesn't always happen when you are a solo traveler. People sometimes look at you oddly. I don't think people always realize that finding someone that is available to travel when you are, wants to go to the same places, stay in the same type of lodging, do similar things, is really, really challenging!!
