点评:I have seen poor ratings of Haddon Hall, due to the parking and the cost of entry. Ignore these. Admittedly, we arrived by bus (convenient stop opposite the entrance to Haddon Hall). But the admission price to the hall was, in my opinion, worth it. This is a largely original medieval building, untouched by the Victorian mania for modernisation, and all the better for it. Yea, you have to work a bit harder to fully enjoy the delights which will unfold once attentive. But stop. Look up. Look closely. The chapel in particular is spectacular, with beautiful frescoes. And the long gallery is epic. The on site cafe is good value, with lovely home baked cakes and good looking food. Cheese scones were gorgeous. The gardens are lovely. I don’t even particularly like gardens, but sitting on a bench, listening to the fountain and watching the bees and butterflies was a moment of rare quiet reflection. Listen to the guides, ask questions, you will be rewarded.
