点评:Starting at Bancroft Basin and Gardens, the Stratford-upon-Avon Canal, is over 25 miles long, running from Stratford-upon-Avon to up near Birmingham. We only explored the section immediately around Stratford-upon-Avon, which is a very popular stretch.
On a sunny day, this is a beautiful area to be. We paused to watch a long canal tour boat work the lock. A small crowd gathered as the boat entered the lock, the sluice gates closed and the lock filled so allowing the boat to continue up the waterway.
There is a lot to see around here - the ancient Clopton and Tramway bridges with their long, arched spans, the Gower Memorial, and the Royal Shakespeare Theatre which backs onto the waterway. There are also more ducks and swans than I’ve seen anywhere else before. There must have been about 25 - 30 beautiful big white swans just cruising by. It was very picturesque.
Tourists like us are mostly all clustered around the Bancroft Gardens area which is a pretty lively area. As we walked further along the waterway, away from the town, it became less busy and locals, out strolling with dogs or fishing on the riverbank, started to outnumber tourists.
