点评:Visited with elderly mum in a wheelchair, 17yr old and 7yr old.
We had researched beforehand and could see majority is disabled friendly, but the incline up the hill is no joke! Thankfully my son is into the gym, as I would have given up
In the first 50m 🤣 glad we chose to take her wheelchair rather than chance a mobility scooter conking out.
There is a nice variety of animals, all seem well cared for and the enclosures although sometimes small concrete jungles are beautifully clean . We have been to other zoos where you can’t see the animals as the peeped is so scratched you can’t see through. Was lovely to see how well everything is maintained here.
We visited during half term, lots of picnic and cafe space available.
We saw the bird show at the castle which was informative. I really really enjoyed castle creatures, you could just imagine that’s how the castle would have smelled back in medieval times. The staging of the exhibition was really inventive.
Disability notes- the train is not accessible if you have moderate mobility issues, it is a high step and you need to be able to
Move sideways
Disabled loos in the castle cafe. The corridor is quite narrow and near the cafe door, so could be tricky to manoeuvre in and out.
Those that ride on the chair lift loved it.
3 adults who found the map/zoo quite tricky to navigate. Found a lack of signage, we tried but couldn’t find the camels , penguins or orangutang .
Overall an enjoyable day across all the age, I would return again, but not with anyone with reduced mobility
