点评:We visited the museum on a busy Saturday morning. It is extremely easy to get to from the city centre (Govan Subway station is a five minute walk away) and it more than holds its own in a city blessed with so many good museums and galleries.
Not only does it welcome, reward, and encourage inquisitive minds of all ages it also benefits from a layout that brings to life so many of the different types of transport from the past 150 years and helps to place the people who built, drove, fixed, used, and loved them at the heart of the broader stories.
I am not a petrol-head but the sheer variety of motor vehicles dating from the turn of the 20th right through to the 21st century is a delight.
And the sheer mass and bulk of the locomotives is complemented by the elegance and luxury of the fancy tramcars and exquisite engineering and manufacturing feats on show.
The extended street reconstruction - where visitors can experience what it would be like to take in a trip to a selection of old-time places (from a pub, to a cinema, via a vintage Subway car, and a mixture of specialist stores) - is a special highlight.
Also of interest to those perhaps put off by the notion of transport exclusive materials are the rotating displays focused on popular culture; from the TARDIS to Star Wars, Gremlins, and more.
Highly recommended for anyone from around five years old upwards it is a treat of a building, curated with expertise and care.
And - like many of Glasgow’s main attractions - it is free to access (donations welcome and richly deserved).
