Birmingham Cathedral的点评
点评：We had booked a Walking Tour of the city and the starting point was outside the Cathedral, so we arrived early to give us time to go inside and take a look.
As a person of faith, I am always going to find something to love about a church or cathedral but this building will appeal to any visitors as it isn't massive and so feels accessible; it also has some stunning stained glass (and there are notices inviting visitors to walk past the altar to gain the best possible view) and a wonderful organ, should you be lucky enough to visit when the organist happens to be practicing, as we were.
Once on our Walking Tour, we discovered that the church, dedicated to Saint Philip, was not originally built as the Cathedral for the city but was nominated for the role as Birmingham gained city status in the 1800's, hence it's diminuitive size for a cathedral but it does, in my opinion at least, make up for that in terms of feeling comfortable and cosy.
There were staff in the building when we visited but, for those who would find it offputting, no need to worry about being approached, all very hands off but still available.
You can sit quietly, find a space to pray, light a candle, or pick up some literature and postcards (donations accepted). There is also a donation point where, if you so wish (and please do remember how much these buildings cost to upkeep), you can tap your card.
Well worth a visit.
