点评:This might be the West Midlands' best kept secret and not surprisingly so, because I can perfectly see why locals would want to keep this beautiful and vast space to themselves.
This is most definitely not a park in the Municipal, formally laid out, sense. but a huge space of woodland, lakes and paths. At the gate where we entered there was a children's playground, plenty of parking and a visitor centre, where we were able to pick up a map.
The map had a QR code, so that you could pull up the map on your phone. It would have been good to have a larger scale to the map, particularly through the QR code (thereby not requiring vast amounts of paper) because, honestly, we took a wrong turn and got just a little lost!
But, as long as one keeps to the paved paths - it is possible to trek off into the woods - you can't really get lost, 'all roads lead to ... and all that.
Cars can enter the park and there are multiple small car parks. Not sure if you can actually cross the park in a car, that wouldn't seem a good idea because there would be the danger of it becoming a rat run. At one point, a snack van and ice cream van were parked up.
Lots of dog owners walking their dogs and ignoring the call to keep all dogs on a lead.
The landscape is clearly managed but in a sensitive way, giving one the feeling of being out in the open countryside; just a wonderful resource.
