点评:Wow, what a great museum! It is spread over two floors and tells the story of Norwich roughly chronologically. I love social/industrial history and I really love a fake shop front (!) so I particularly enjoyed the section about the high street, which told the story of various real shops from Norwich's history, with exhibits displayed in shop windows and information boards hanging on brackets like shop signs - really well designed. Also on the shop theme, there is an incredible replica Victorian/Edwardian chemist shop containing old packaging which was collected by a former chemist when he saw several old businesses closing down. Upstairs is mainly concerned with local industries and factories, including Colman's Mustard, Caley's confectionery, and the many shoe factories which used to be in the town. There is also some domestic history about the living conditions of people in the early part of the 20th century, including some fascinating oral history recordings, and a fantastic doll's house made during WW2 out of scraps and household items. The history of the textile trade which is integral to Norwich's history was also well told, and the building was a small prison at one stage of its history so there is also a room about this. There were so many interesting things to see - I was there about three hours and could really have spent even longer. This was a highlight of my trip to Norwich.
