点评：Visited as part of my birthday weekend in Kent. Have always been fascinated by Anne Boleyn and visiting her “ childhood “ home has been something I’ve wanted to do for many years.
We arrived early ( recommended ) and the doors opened at 10.30am. After a short walk from the car park, you see the Castle & surrounding grounds and it truly is breathtaking. For anyone interested in History ( & in particular Anne Boleyn ) this is a must visit place. The film “ Anne of the Thousand Days “ was filmed in part here and it was wonderful catching sight of the various locations used. The lower floor of the house is primarily dedicated to the story of the Astor Family, whereas upstairs it centres on The Boleyn’s. I have a mobility issue in my legs but I managed the stairs with the aid of a rope banister. Upstairs features lots about Anne, including a glimpse at her original Book of Hours, her final letter to Henry VIII ( a copy ) and other original pieces that create such joy in those who love history & this fascinating lady.
Outside, the Gardens are VAST. And beautifully kept. The huge lake at the top of the gardens was absolutely stunning.
I cannot recommend this place enough. The staff are all lovely and informative, the gift shop fabulous & full of wonderful & unique Anne Boleyn related gifts ( my credit card needs therapy ) and in all, we spent 5 hours in one of the most beautiful, and well maintained historical places my partner and I have ever visited. A perfect day out.
