点评：As a result of Henry VIII marital difficulties in obtaining a male heir, which ultimately resulted in Englands rejection of the established Catholic church, and its teaching. This then formed the basis of the Protestant church, with Henry VIII being a guiding light.- but to pay for this ,Catholic goods, livestock and churches were confiscated in 1540, and funds used for the defense of the realm. Tewkesbury was one such religious building, however the town purchased the Abbey buildings, at a cost of £453, thus saving it from being pulled down.
It is a beautiful building, and a source of great local pride. Although the Abbey dates from 1102, with later additions and renovations in the C14th century. Is is a very impressive church with the looks, and the spirital atmosphere - every bit of a cathedral.
