点评:An interesting and lesser known national monument worth the visit if you’re in the area. I had booked the 10 AM tour and that meant that the actual tour didn’t start until 11:30 AM as one and a half hours is factored into your 1.5 mile uphill hike to the beginning of the cave entrance. It is a hike that requires good physical fitness as it does have a steep pitch. There are areas with red and yellow markers along the trail that we’re stopping is prohibited due to falling rock hazard. It was scenic and well shaded in the morning. The sun came out more in the afternoon on the way down. I would recommend bringing a small backpack or a fanny pack with water, a snack, your cave gloves, and then your jacket tied around your waist for the hike.
I had booked the introduction to caving tour as opposed to the regular cave tour. It was an interesting experience and a helmet and kneepads were provided. In hindsight, I would have added the regular cave tour as an add-on by calling the visitor center ahead of time to do this. The introduction to caving tour only covers a small portion of a cave whereas the regular cave tour goes through several other parts of the cave.
