点评:We enjoy a spa on a cruise and thought a two night stay would be a great experience.
Staff were great but the experience was not as ‘premium’ as we expected.
It was a little too much ‘4 star hotel’ than luxury spa and fitness location and not really enough to keep us occupied for two days (can’t do two days reading around the inside pool).
So a bit more detail:
Room - we stayed in a first floor signature room, with a great view over one of the ponds. There are USB ports both sides of the bed and at the desk which are handy. The room was a good size and nice, but had a few niggles:
Room Storage - the room had no storage apart from a small rail for say 6 hangers. There was nowhere to put your case, so just cases on the floor for two days. It could do with just a raised area for your case(s) or some storage.
Room Safe - you expect a safe, but not on the floor. You literally have to crawl on your hands and knees to use it.
Room Bed - bed was comfortable and very large, but a dated scandi style with a wooden boarder of about 15cm all the way round, perfect to wack your legs when getting in and out.
Room Bath / Shower - the shower was over the bath, a little under pressure but nice and warm. At the shower end there is non slip material, but not the end where you need to get out, so be very careful.
Room Blinds - the French doors have blackout curtains which is great, there is however a small window about head height which just has Venetian blinds. This needs some form of blackout covering - we wedged a cushion over it.
Spa area - this was our major area of disappointment.
It isn’t really big enough for the number of people using it - we stayed in between Christmas and new year and every lounger was taken and the jacuzzi area especially was far too small (capacity for 10 max). The sauna was out of order when we visited, the pool was cloudy (too cloudy), the steam room seat had tiles missing and you got grout on your hands when you put them on the seat. We were expecting a premium luxurious area and this just didn’t fit the brief, no better than most 4 star hotels (and worse than our local David Lloyd).
Gym - Gym was clean and had a reasonable array of machines, but again, as a location that specializes in health and fitness we found the gym small, with only two free weight benches 8 cardio machines etc. A reasonable hotel gym, nothing more.
Spa Treatments - this was mad, the wife had two treatments booked, back to back. Normally you stay in your treatment room between facial and massage and often you keep the same member of staff. Here she was asked to get dressed after her facial, wait in the lounge area to then go to a different room for her massage - madness.
Activities - we are not the kind of people to spend the whole day around the pool (especially inside), so we’d hoped there would be a good selection of activities (classes etc), there were a couple, but only about 3 classes a day and nothing in the evening. So it’s sit in the bar or your room. We cracked on the second day and headed out for the evening.
Restaurant - We are both Coeliacs and therefore need to have a Gluten Free diet. The food was good, but choice for a Coeliac was very limited. Staff were very knowledgeable and adjusted food items where they could, but still choice very limited for a Coeliac.
Food is also premium priced, £22 for a sandwich, about £110 for a couple for a 3 course dinner - £10 more each for steak (excluding drinks). As I say food was good, but unfortunately a bit limited for us.
Staff - staff were amazing throughout the hotel / venue, bar / restaurant / reception staff all very helpful.
In summary it was clean and its staff are amazing, but needs work to reclaim its ‘premium’ status. The hotel / venue just didn't feel like it’s being maintained to a 5 star / premium finish and the spa area is just too small for the volume of clientele.
