Major disappointment - a missed opportunity

点评：We had great hopes for a visit here as the house and gardens were closed when we were last visited County Sligo. Poor signage on the approach. Cafe and ticket office is in The Coach House - an impressive space but a missed opportunity - austere brown furniture and uncomfortable seats. Staff not particularly engaging. Not great after a long drive. Small selection of cakes and scones (nothing savoury) both cakes we ordered were very dry. Not sure where to start with the house visit … bought two tickets a 16€ each. We weren’t informed where to go and weren’t told there were guided visits only. We found our way to the what we assumed was house entrance but the doors were closed. No signage. Entrance porch was strewn with shoes and trainers, a dirty dog bed/basket (the owners detritus maybe) assorted mops and other cleaning stuff. Went back to the ticket desk to say we couldn’t find a way in. We were offered the next tour but instead got a refund (thank you to John for doing that without hesitation). The whole place is looking very tired and sad, and this is reflected in the visitor experience. The grounds we saw were nothing to write home about and quite neglected. There’s very little to recommend here. Needs a proper front of house team to welcome visitors and someone with a guest experience background to propel the whole place into the 21st century.
