Oh dear, no deer!

点评：Saturday appeared to be the only day of sunshine in the last few weeks of gloom. We were not surprised to find the park very busy! The world and his wife had turned up!
As usual, the cafe was our first call (not really, it was the second after the loo). We found a table without too much trouble and, in spite of the queue, were served soon enough. The staff were hurried but pleasant with a brief welcome. The coffee and cakes gave us the chance to plan the rest of the visit.
A very delightful stroll round the garden complex. Some excellent work being done to transform the formal garden. we shall be back later in the spring to see the tulip display. The warm('ish) sunshine encouraged a quiet repose by the pond. Somewhere the mighty throng of people had melted into the surrounding park lands!
We wandered into the house with a most friendly greeting by the door steward. He kindly explained the arrangements for bags and a brief explanation of the route to follow. We picked up booklets about the house, painting and artifacts that are to be found in the various rooms. The short video was worth watching as that gave a clear overall picture of the family and the parks creation. The provided booklets were very informative, however, we did discover that some artifacts had been moved to different rooms - slight panic over, we continued. As expected the room stewards were well informed and most helpful.
A late lunch stop had been planned, however, the main cafe was very busyso we retired to the Old Lodge where life was so much easier.
A final perambulation of the deer park and back to the car.
As we change our footwear a small child in the next car complained that he had not seen any deer. His guardian concurred, to which he replied 'Oh dear, no deer' - I'll give him a 9 for effort!
