点评：Visiting Durham Cathedral was one of the highlights of my time in Durham. Dominating the skyline high above the River Wear, the cathedral is an extraordinary example of Norman architecture and feels impressive long before you even step inside.
The exterior alone is striking, perched dramatically on a peninsula alongside Durham Castle, but it’s the interior that really stands out. The massive stone pillars, soaring arches and atmospheric lighting create a space that feels both grand and peaceful at the same time. Walking through the nave, you can’t help but appreciate the scale and craftsmanship that has stood for centuries.
One of the fun facts that adds an extra layer of interest is that Durham Cathedral was used as a filming location for the Harry Potter movies. Parts of the cloisters doubled as Hogwarts corridors, and standing there, you can easily recognise scenes from the films. For Harry Potter fans, it’s a special moment — but even if you’re not, the cloisters are beautiful in their own right.
From a practical point of view, entry to the cathedral is free (though donations are encouraged), and it’s easy to reach on foot from Durham’s city centre. If you’re able, climbing the central tower is well worth it for panoramic views across Durham and the surrounding countryside.
