First class museum for first class lady sculpture

点评：Come yearly. The museum design always impresses me. The slate building. Positioned on a weir. All angles with wonderful views along the river. The small main collection of Barbara’s world changing sculptures. So impressive. She made it so you want to touch and fondle. Alas you can’t! A wonderful thing this small town has done for one of its famous previous inhabitants. Cafe is good as well. Fine coffee and excellent cakes etc. Good gift shop
Not so keen on the other 2 exhibitions but the museum presents seasonal shows as well. As an Artfund member you get a small discount in the good museum shop plus a smaller entrance fee. The museum used to be free. As the Artfund is promoting the buying of a fabulous Barbara Hepworth statue for the museum its members are helping significantly toward its purchase. I also donated twice during the funds nationwide appeal for the museum towards the purchase. Hopefully the Hepworth will reach the sum needed to keep the statue in Wakefield. And bring back free entry for Artfund members who have helped that happen. It’s a first rate museum and gallery. Let’s hope it can be the permanent home of many more of the amazing Barbara’s unique statues
