点评:As RHS members who have visited many wonderful gardens across the South-East, we had high hopes for our first visit to Furzey, as this is an RHS Partner Garden. We'd previously attended an open air theatre production there in the evening which was very good, but we'd not explored the garden itself. On arrival on an August weekday, we struggled to find a parking space and had to queue for quite a few minutes at the entrance while tickets were checked. We'd booked and paid online the previous day, but the lady at the entrance had no record of this (she did let us in though!).
The area in front of the thatched cottage has an attractive small garden with some flowers and vegetables, but the rest of the garden was lacking colour in August (perhaps it is better in late Spring?) and was overgrown and needing attention in places. It was immediately apparent that the gardens cater mainly for families of small children with a lot of noisy children's activities involving fairies and dinosaurs. No problem with that, but it did somewhat detract from the idea of a garden as a peaceful place to look at beautiful flowering plants.
The cafe was fine, with some nice cakes, but only three loos for a garden full of several hundred people (most of whom appeared to be little kids) is hardly adequate.
