点评:This is a lovely park, we went on three different tours - Golden monkey trekking first, Batwa tour and then the Gorillas. It's best to save the gorillas for last so as to build up to the experience. It is much easier to get a permit here since most operators prefer taking tourists to Bwindi. We stayed at the community camp which was simple but friendly and adequate with well-cooked food and very conveniently located just a few minutes from the park!
Take your time in this park and don't miss the Batwa tour, they are a unique people and their culture will soon be completely lost. Tragically the Batwa have not been allowed inside the forest for 30 years and their knowledge of how to live in the forest and get everything they need from nature is becomig lost.
While the tour is amazing and they are intriguing and very welcoming people, their story is very sad, this vulnerable group was brutally disposessed and thrown out of their forest since ignorant governments and conservation organisations believe it is impossible to conserve gorillas at the same time as conserving the Batwa's uniqe culture, while they have lived side by side with gorillas for millenia and gorillas are thretended by farmers, tea plantations and poachers, not the Batwa. Their completely unique culture should be a cherished UNESCO cultural heritage.
They now work on other people's farms and eat agricultural products that they are not used to and that gives them health problems instead of their traditional forest foods. It's provoking that the park takes 50% of the 80 USD you pay for the tour and that this utterly destitute community only gets 50%. At the end of the tour you can give them an extra donation or buy crafts made by the women.
Our guide to the gorillas and on the Batwa tour was very friendly and excellent.
