点评：Sissinghurst was one of the stops on our Kent road trip, and it didn’t disappoint. The gardens alone are worth the detour — beautifully kept, and clearly the product of serious horticultural obsession.
What elevates it beyond “nice gardens” is the history. The estate has been through its fair share of boom and bust over the centuries, and the family behind it were not exactly boring. Dig into the backstory before or during your visit — the area is dotted with other properties tied to the same scandalous lineage, so it’s worth following the thread.
We had our dog with us, who was welcome across the grounds but had to sit out the buildings. Worth knowing in advance if you’re travelling with a pet.
Tips:
• Dogs allowed in the gardens, not indoors
• Read up on the family history beforehand — it adds a lot to the visit
• Worth building into a wider Kent itinerary rather than a standalone trip
