点评:Cape Brett track has a rep for being brutal. Read the reviews, that word is mentioned a lot. What’s also mentioned a lot is that there are minimal flat bits;that it’s all either up or down. I’m hear to offer another perspective. Yes the first hill out of Rawhiti is long and steep and hard. But that’s the worst of the ascents. The rest of the trail has lots of ups and downs yes, but also a decent amount of flat or gentle rises. Just enough to keep you going. Recommend having your All Trails elevation profile to hand because that is certainly a mental help. There are also some sharp descents that are crumbly when dry and I imagine slippery when wet but there’s plenty of scrub to hang on to. I did it last Friday. I’m 60 and of average fitness. I huff and puff and I take rest stops and it took me 6.5 hours and I’m super-stoked with that. The views are huge. The sense of achievement is huge. DO IT. The hut is refurbed and lovely, there are pots, pans, gas, picnic tables and water,at the moment anyway. The seagull poo smells a bit and the loos smell absolutely dreadful (I’ve reached out to DOC about that, for our overseas tourists reading this, this is very very abnormal for DOC hut loos). Also we slept with the window open (because it was hot) and no mozzies! Altogether super worth the considerable effort.
