AVOID the Christmas light trail disappointment (Dec 2025)

点评：We visited the Betteshanger Christmas Light Trail in December 2025 and paid around £14 per head (this does not include meeting Santa). While the light trail itself was decent value for money, be aware that it is essentially just a stroll through the woods with some lights. The children receive a small sweet bag, but there is also a stall selling marshmallows halfway round, at £1 each (and that doesn’t include any dipping sauces.)
The biggest disappointment for me was the poor facilities. The Lamp Room does NOT sell takeaway drinks. There is no sign on the door, so customers waste time queuing only to be told to go to the tiny takeaway stall elsewhere in the park.
I cannot stress enough the lack of festive atmosphere. There was no Christmas market, no mulled wine stall, and across the entire park there was just ONE tiny coffee van with a single employee who was clearly rushed off her feet, and one food van. The waiting time for hot drinks was around 20 minutes, and this was off-peak time. When I went back to the main restaurant and asked whether they could serve takeaway drinks on this occasion to help reduce waiting times, the staff said it wasn’t possible. I understand there may be an agreement with the coffee van to avoid competition, but a bit of common sense and compassion in the situation wouldn’t have gone amiss.
While I don’t want to criticise the hardworking employee at the hot drinks van, £3.70 for a tiny hot drink and £2.50 for a babyccino (a small cup of hot milk for children) feels like daylight robbery.
Don’t bother visiting Santa, the waiting time was 45 minutes.
Finally, as always, the £4.50 parking fee was another sting. It’s crazy that a small nature park charges so much for parking when many others don’t.
We won’t be going again, which is such a shame. Betteshanger used to be great, but it has most certainly gone downhill.

最后，和往常一样，4.50英镑的停车费又让人心疼。一个小型自然公园的停车费竟然这么贵，而其他很多公园都不收，真是太离谱了。
