The UBS Polybahn is a historic funicular in the heart of Zurich that connects Central/Old Town with the ETH Zurich and Polyterrasse. It’s a great option if you want to save your legs from walking uphill!
The ride is very short — roughly 2–3 minutes — so don’t expect a long sightseeing journey. The real value is the convenience and the experience of riding this little historic railway.
📍 Where to catch it
The lower station is near Central, just across the river from Zurich’s Old Town. The upper station brings you right up to the ETH/Polyterrasse area.
👀 What to do at the top
Don’t just turn around and head back down! Walk out to the Polyterrasse, where you get a lovely panoramic view over Zurich, including the Old Town and Lake Zurich. It’s especially nice on a clear day.

If you’re using Zurich public transportation, check your ticket/pass before paying separately, as the Polybahn is integrated into the local transit system and some tickets include the ride.
