点评:We visited Osborne House with elderly friends and were very disappointed with how inaccessible the site is for anyone with mobility issues.
Despite the website stating that wheelchairs are available, there are only two on site – one was broken and the other already in use when we arrived. Much of the grounds are covered in loose gravel, which makes it extremely difficult to use a wheelchair or a wheeled walking frame. This meant our friends were unable to enjoy large parts of the grounds.
The shuttle bus to the Swiss Cottage was a good idea and does have a ramp, but staff need better training – users must be able to access the ramp from the very bottom, not be asked to step on from the side.
On a positive note, the staff inside the house itself were excellent – very helpful with the lift and alternative routes, and clearly aware of accessibility needs.
Overall, though, the experience was frustrating and could have been so much better with a little more planning. A few simple changes, such as temporary accessibility tracks or binding the gravel with resin, would make Osborne House far more welcoming without harming its historic setting.
