Prudhoe Castle的点评
点评：Prudhoe castle was built by Umfraville family between the twelfth and fourteenth century. Acquired by the Percy family in 1381 the stronghold was abandoned in 1672.
In the early nineteenth century Hugh Percy gave Prudhoe a new life when he ordered the ruinous buildings to be cleared away and the old medieval residential wing rebuilt as a house for his local land agent.

Visitors can discover Prudhoe castle with the help of an excellent guidebook. There are also some reconstruction drawings.
The tour takes you past the ruins of the keep (dated 1180) and the sparse remains of the chamber block (dated 1200) into the outer bailey where only foundations remain of the great hall, solar and kitchen. Past the gatehouse (dated 1150, housing the chapel but inaccessible) and the barbican you can walk around the curtain walls (dated 1330) and into the pele yard which formerly housed stables and barns.
Neither curtain wall nor towers can be climbed.
Prudhoe castle still looks defendable. The crenellated facade and reinserted medieval windows make the nineteenth century house blend in well with the medieval structures. I would love living here. The fortress looks very picturesque.
