A lovely Historic House full of portraits and interesting family history

点评：Visited as part of our Historic Houses membership. The car park is free, which is unusual as you usually have to pay extra to park. A short walk to the entrance, and yes a long walk down to the house, but this is the same with any country house. All the staff were extremely friendly and helpful, even more so than in most country houses I have visited over the years. The house is full of family portraits, more than I have seen in most other houses and castles. it is clearly a family home, open in July and August each year. I booked my tickets on 1st July in order to secure tickets as I believe they limit the numbers available and you have to pre book. This did mean the house wasn't overcrowded even on a glorious Saturday in July. You are not allowed to take photos inside the house, which to be honest I didn't mind as I could focus on enjoying looking around rather than taking pictures. We bought a guide book which was full of interesting information and pictures and very reasonably priced at £6.
Of course the house is most famous for being Princess Diana's family home and final resting place. There is one portrait of her, no other information or photographs, and whilst it was nice to learn the history of the family I do think there could have been a little more available about the houses most famous resident. If this is the reason you are visiting then just purchase a ticket for the grounds.
Diana's final resting place is beautiful, peaceful and perfect, it is a short walk from the house and it was nice to go and pay our respects after looking around the house.
We spent nearly 3 hours there in total, well worth a visit.
