点评：I have just finished an 8 day riding / 9 night stay at the Hacienda including the Quilatoa loop.
It was one of the most magical and memorable experiences of my life.
The quality of the is extremely high - they are selected and bred for their sure-footedness, brains and endurance (a mix of Berber/Criolo/some
English and French breeds). They are trained on the mountains and can easily do 7 hours a day at high altitude. They’re forward going and pretty much bomb proof, including with 70kmh winds and machetes!
The horses, as well as Gabriel (the owner) and Guido (the expert horseman who looks after the herd) made me feel safe and secure at all times. Even on the vertiginous climbs, and in the completely isolated and rural countryside.
One of the family is always on hand to host you and make you feel welcome at their home in the Hacienda, which is authentic and charming, littered with original horse and chagra equipment and books to dive into.
The guest rooms are large and private, in their own “wing” from the main house. All have a dramatic view over the Ecuadorian mountains.
I learnt a huge amount about the Ecuadorian culture and agriculture, chagras and horsemanship from Gabriel and Mauricio during our rides.
And last but not least I must mention the 4 lovely border collies on site!
