点评:The better-known Carrowmore complex was closed, so we sought out Carrowkeel instead. Very glad we did. It is not easy to find, and it is a good uphill hike to the Neolithic site, but well worth the effort on a nice day. No charge to enter, and we only saw a handful of other people during our entire visit. Had the top of the mountain, where a number of Neolithic tombs are located in a commanding site offering incredible views and essentially untouched 5000-year-old history. Allow a couple of hours minimum up and down. It will take you a good hour going up, but the incline is gentle and a nice, but not excessive, workout. It is a joy to visit a site of such drama and history that is basically unchanged and unspoiled over eons of time.
There is a gate and a very small parking area at the entrance. You can open the gate and drive through a bit further uphill to another small parking area, saving you some walking. Don't go any further by vehicle, though, as only foot traffic is allowed past that point and the road is closed (and in some places, impassible) to cars.
