点评:There are excellent facilities at the Leven Canyon Reserve, and everything is well maintained. However, the picnic area is open to the wind, and the wind was bitterly cold. It was a bit better when we walked into the forest on the loop track, but the wind was fierce at Cruickshanks Lookout. It was was totally worth it. The view was spectacular! As we took it all in, we espied a black tiger snake coiled below the viewing platform. That was a good place for him to be, nestled in the grass about three meters below our feet. He hardly moved. I assume he was waiting for the sun to come out so he could absorb whatever heat would become available. When we tired of looking at a still-life serpent, we began descending the 600+ steps toward the lower lookout. The wind did not reach down into the gully, so this was much more comfortable. My wife admired the numerous orchids along the path. The Edge Lookout provides a lesser view of the canyon, but a much better view of the powerful, tannin-stained river. We added dusky robin to our life list on the ascent back to the picnic area. As we drove out, we saw a very cute echidna that was busy slurping up ants near the entrance. The scenery was gorgeous, and wildlife enhanced the experience.
