Really loved Historic Blakeley State Park

点评：We camped for the Veterans Day weekend and were pleasantly surprised to find that on Saturday there were a few events scheduled describing the Civil War battles of Fort Blakeley, Spanish Fort and the surrounding area. It started with a canon demonstration that was very well done. We took the boat tour with the State Park's Director, Mike, and found out a great deal about the battles that took place along the river from Mobile to Fort Blakeley. We really enjoyed the boat tour and excellent presentation. After the boat tour, we went to hear from an author about the battles in and around that area and how he accomplished research for his book. He showed many, many diagrams and pictures during his talk, making it visually interesting as well. Upon receiving all this information we opted to take a walk along the battleground making it all come together. This park is very well maintained to show the positions of the Union and Confederate lines, how the siege and battle at Fort Blakeley took place. There are many trails which get you closer to battalion positions, trenches, and company placements. This was an excellent camping experience and historic park of discovery. We highly recommend it, especially for Civil War or military history buffs. Of all the listed above highlights, our favorite was the boat tour because it gave a unique view of the battles. Again, highly recommend!
